The whole month of October the Museum will have our “Delmarva Folklore, Myths & Legends Exhibition”
Walk through the Museum and discover the history and legends surrounding each of our creatures. Learn about the most famous legends of our region and check out our map guiding you to new and exciting places to explore on the shore! This will be fun for guests of all ages!
Saturday and Sunday, October 1st & 2nd at 12:30 PM: Chessie the Chesapeake Bay Monster Program
Come discover the friendly Chesapeake Bay Monster that sparked mass conservation efforts for our beloved Bay. This friendly sea monster was first reported in the 1930’s and has become one of the most famous folklore characters of our region. In the 1980s the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service published a coloring book telling Chessie’s story. Join us Saturday and Sunday at the Museum to hear the story of Chessie and receive your own copy of Chessie’s coloring book.
Saturday and Sunday, October 8th & 9th at 12:30 PM: Friend or Foe?
Join us Saturday and Sunday at the Museum to learn about the history of our native delmarva animals. Learn how people have viewed them throughout history starting with the Native Americans and early settlers. How were these animals used? Why were certain animals feared? What did they symbolize and what do they mean to us today here on the Delmarva Peninsula?
Saturday and Sunday, October 15th & 16th at 12:30 PM: Delmarva Legends Program
Join us Saturday and Sunday at the Museum to learn about different legends that have haunted our Peninsula from the Selbyville Swamp Monster to the Legend of the Chincoteague Ponies. These spooky tales have haunted the region and helped shape human culture in our area. After we discuss these legends we’ll send you on your way with a map of spooky areas to check out here on the peninsula!
Saturday and Sunday, October 22nd & 23rd at 12:30 PM: Our haunted Pocomoke Forest Program
The Pocomoke Forest is known as Maryland’s most haunted forest. Having served as a hideout for many during the civil war it’s no wonder this forest is full of urban legends, but where there is legend there is truth. Come find out what lurks in the Cypress Swamp and the role that this forest has played in shaping our history.
Saturday and Sunday, October 29th & 30th at 12:00 PM: Shore Laddie & Otterly Spooky
Join us as we delve into the history of River Otters across the world and in our region. Don’t forget to stick around to watch our beloved Otters, Mac & Tuck, receive their special Halloween treat!
