Purnell Shockley

Obituary Date: 12/26/1903

Information in this record:
Shockley, Purnell died Friday morning of last week, at the home of Mr. Charles f. Truitt, near town. On the Sunday morning prior to his death, Mr. Shockley suffered a stroke of paralysis, which terminated fatally a few days later. Mr. Truitt, with whom Mr. Shockley has made his home since the death of his brother, the late Frank
Shockley, has but recently moved to his new home which he bought of Mr. Levi Brimer on the edge of town, and Mr. Shockley had looked forward with the eagerness of a child to being so near town where he could walk back and forth each day. Although this pleasure was short lived, when death claimed him, he had already lived to a venerable age, 76 years. His funeral took place Saturday morning, the exercise being conducted by his pastor, Rev. Avery Dosovan. Interment was made in the cemetery of the Methodist Protestant Church. Mr. Shockley leaves on brother, Mr. James Henry Shockley, and three sisters, Mrs. Dewitt C. Fooks, Mrs. William M. Vincent and Miss ??(unreadable) Shockley, to mourn their loss. 26 December 1903 DM
