James Richardson

Obituary Date: 1/24/1903

Information in this record:
Captain James Richardson died at his home near Berlin last Sunday night of Bright's Disease in the 77th year of his age. When he was 10 years of age he went to sea and from that time till his 59th year, he followed the water. Eighteen years ago he was selected to act as toll-keeper of the bridge at Ocean City, in which capacity he remained until the toll was taken off, when he was retained to look after the draw bridge. Seven children survived him; Mrs. William Rayne, Mrs. Joseph Campbell and Lemuel Richardson of Wilmington, Delaware. Mrs. Sallie Fisher of Chincoteague, Virginia, Mr. James E. Richardson and Mrs. Frederick Ridings of Berlin and Mrs. Benjamin Esham of Snow Hill. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday. DM
