Berlin--A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Burbage Funeral Home here for Edgar George Gaskins, 75 of Berlin. He died Monday, October 3, 1988, of heart failure at Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. The Rev. Gary Baer will officiate. Interment will follow in Buckingham Presbyterian Cemetery.
Born in Ocean City, he was the son of the late Edgar Cannon and Ada Belle Hastings Gaskins. a self-employed contractor for many years, he also was a supervisor of maintenance for the Worcester County school system.
A World War II Seabee veteran, he was a member of Boggs-Disharoon American Legion Post 123, the Forty and Eight organization, the Order of Redmen, past president of the Delmarva Peninsula Gold Association, recipient of the Berlin Award, director of the Ocean City Life-Saving
Station Museum, founding member of the Ocean City Golf and Yacht Club, a member of the Disabled Veteran Americans and the Buckingham Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Lynch Gaskins; a daughter, Katie Belle Gaskins Matthews of Springfield, Virginia; two brothers, Allen R. Mason of Fruitland and Charles Linwood "Lenny" Gaskins of Calla Mesa, California; three grandchildren; a great-grandson and several nephews. Friends may call tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in the memory of the deceased to the Buckingham Presbyterian Church.
