Savannah Bowen (nee Aydelotte)

Information in this record:
Mrs. Savannah Aydelotte Bowen, aged 80 years, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of this city, died suddenly at her home on Tuesday of acute asthma, following an illness of several months.
Though suffering for months, Mrs. Bowen was not confined to her bed and her death came as a shock to her many friends in this city.
Mrs. Bowen was the daughter of the late Col. William James Aydelotte and Mary Ellen Slocum Aydelotte of Virginia. She was born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia where she spent her early life. During the Civil War her parents moved to Pocomoke City, where she lived until her marriage in 1870 to Ara Parker Bowen of Newark.
From 1870 until 1917 Mrs. Bowen resided at Newark, south of here. Five years ago her husband died.
The deceased was a member of Trinity M.P. Church, at Newark and was connected with the Presbyterian Church in this city, which she attended.
Funeral services will be held at the home on Washington and Mill Streets, Thursday afternoon by the Rev. J. R. Verbrycke and Rev. George Brown, Methodist Protestant pastor of Newark and Snow Hill. Interment will be made in Buckingham Cemetery here.
Mrs. Bowen is survived by four children; Leslie P. Bowen, Newark, Mrs. J. Harry Young, Pocomoke City, Mrs. Jehu D. Quillin and Mrs. Harry Jarvis of this city. Two sisters, Mrs. D. J. Whealton, Salisbury and Mrs. Thomas Matthews of Philadelphia and a brother, Dr. John Aydelotte, Snow Hill, also survives. She leaves nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
